Yummy Meatballs and Pasta Made The New Yorker Way!…
One thing about me that most people in my life already know, is that I love pasta! It really doesn’t even matter what kind of pasta, just be sure to have some good sauce and bread on the side waiting for me! Lately, I’ve been exploring how to make fresh pasta recipes, since I’m interested in purchasing a pasta maker very soon.
Today’s recipe of the day is going to be how to make New York style meatballs with fresh pasta. I have tried this recipe a few times and it came out perfect and was so filling. When I made this dish, I made it with regular box spaghetti noodles that I had in my pantry, since I didn’t have access to getting fresh pasta at that time. The meal still was very delicious and definitely worth making during a busy weekday night. The leftovers taste just as good when you first made it!
So if your ready to learn how to make some good ol’ meatballs and pasta the New Yorker way, then lets first talk about the ingredients that your going to need for your meatballs and sauce.
- 1 medium onion, chopped finely
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- A few springs of fresh thyme and rosemary (dried thyme and rosemary can be used as well)
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 lb ground beef
- Salt and pepper (optional)
*After sautéing your onions and garlic, add all ingredients together in a large bowl by using your hands. Start rolling your meat into a golf ball size and set aside in the fridge while you prepare your sauce. *
- 3 medium onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 3 cups of fresh tomatoes (cherry tomatoes or any of your choice)
- 1 14 oz can of tomatoes (your choice)
- 1 tablespoon of tomato purée
- 1-2 tablespoons of sherry vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- Half of a bunch of fresh basil
*Let your sauce simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour and then transfer sauce to a blender to purée to make “gravy“. Return sauce/gravy back to your pot on a low temperature. Brown your meatballs on all sides before adding it to your sauce/gravy. Allow sauce and meatballs to simmer together for 10 minutes.*
Cook your pasta according to the directions on the box, but if you are making fresh pasta, here is some quick instructions.
*Allow water to boil and add in a sprinkle of salt. Cook until pasta is al dente (this will depend on what kind of pasta that you have).*
Now after everything is complete, don’t forget to top with some fresh parsley and of course parmesan cheese!
